It all started with a conversation with a classmate from my training program. Talking about our ambitions and the challenges facing the industry, he mentioned the name Lyon Cyber Expo. Curious, I dug into it, and quickly understood why he was recommending this event to me.
Throughout my training, I've spent a lot of time configuring routers, optimizing OSPF topologies, and securing traffic flows. But beyond the pure technical side, I know that the beating heart of IT today is cybersecurity. If you're like me — a student or aspiring professional, passionate about infrastructure and digital resilience — here's why this event tops my list.
Why Lyon Cyber Expo?
It's not just a trade show, it's a crossroads. You run into CIOs, CISOs, and the experts managing tomorrow's critical infrastructure. For someone currently learning to build robust networks, seeing how those same networks get "attacked," audited, and protected is an essential step.
Between talks on IT/OT convergence, the challenges of the NIS2 directive, and data protection in multicloud environments, it's a real concentrate of everything you won't find in textbooks.
What I hope to find there
A view from the field: Understanding the real threats companies face daily (ransomware, industrial risks, etc.).
Networking: Meeting professionals, talking about career paths, and who knows, finding future internship or apprenticeship opportunities.
The state of the art: Seeing firsthand which tools experts use to turn regulatory constraints into a security lever.
An organizational challenge
As a student, I'm aware this show is first and foremost a B2B event heavily geared toward decision-makers. Access isn't always open to everyone, but that's also a stimulating challenge: preparing, showing motivation, and proving that the new generation of network engineers is ready to take over securing the digital world.
What about you? Have any of you already attended Lyon Cyber Expo? Which booths or talks would you recommend for a student looking to specialize in cybersecurity? I'll take all your advice in the comments!
